On Wednesday 23 October 2013, Prince George made his first public appearance in three months since his birth in July, with his parents Prince Williams and Kate Middleton -the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who were joined by their closest friends and family for the christening of their son. Dressed in an elaborate lace and satin christening gown that’s a replica of one made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, the adorable Prince George (third in line to the throne of England) was baptised by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace.

The royal baby has seven godparents namely;

  1. Prince William’s cousin Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne and close friends of the couple
  2. Oliver Baker who met William and Catherine at St. Andrew’s University
  3. Earl Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster
  4. William van Cutsem, a childhood friend of William
  5. Emilia Jardine-Paterson, who went to school with Catherine
  6. Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry
  7. Julia Samuel, who was a good friend of William’s mother, Diana -Princess of Wales

After the service guests were invited to Clarence House for a champagne reception offered with slices of the christening cake, which was a tier of the Duke and Duchess’s wedding cake saved for the occasion.
