U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert was at downtown Seoul, South Korea -breakfasting before a lecture about prospects for peace on the divided Korean Peninsula at a performing arts center on Thursday morning, when a man attacked him with a knife.

The man, who is said to have screamed “South and North Korea should be reunified.” during the attack, has been identified as 55-year-old Kim Ki-jong. He managed to slash the right side of Lippert’s face for he could be stopped.

Reports and images that have been released about the incident show Lippert holding his right hand over a cut on the right side of his face, while his left hand and tie were splattered with blood.

Lippert is Fine

Luckily, Lippert wounds were non-life threatening; he was taken to a hospital to treat wounds after the attack. Mark Lippert later took to twitter to reassure everyone that he is fine.

North Korea has been reported to call the knife attack on Lippert “justice” for the U.S. and South Korea’s annual military that commenced early this week.
