As Kano tries to recover from the bomb attack on a passenger bus weeks back, an explosive device again went off near the Emir of Kano’s palace on Wednesday evening. The device which was carried on a tricycle exploded near Central Mosque around the back fence of the Emir’s palace. The blast which was believed to be a suicide bombing killed one of the men on the tricycle.
Eye witnesses said the bomb went off around 8 pm just after the time for Isha’i prayers and police cordoned off the area shortly after. Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in January. Wednesday’s bombing would be the second attack on the person of the Emir or his property in a matter of three months as the explosion occurred near the mosque where he usually observes his Friday prayers.
The muslim worshippers mobbed and lynched the suspected along with his motorised tricycle, while a second suspect was nabbed while trying to flee, Lieutenant Iweha Ikedichi said.
There were no injuries from the explosion or damage to the mosque, which sits at the centre of the city near the palace of Emir of Kano Ado Bayero.
