The AFCON 2015 opens today in Equitorial Guinea
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off Malabo in Equatorial Guinea today, two months after the country stepped in as host.
Original host Morocco had asked to postpone the event because of fears over the spread of the Ebola virus but their plea was rejected by the Confederation of African Football.
The opening match of the 30th edition of the tournament will feature the home country against Congo at 4:00pm. Three hours later Burkina Faso will meet Gabon in the other Group A match.
Both games will be played in Bata, the country’s biggest city, which also held the opening game in 2012 when the tournament was co-hosted with Gabon.
A football analyst, Ebow Appiah says despite Ghana being in a group that is perceived to be difficult, the Black Stars will excel with commitment and dedication.
He said determination and positive attitude will definitely see Ghana through to the next stage.
